Will of Thomas Guillaume 1859.  Probate 1862

Will of Thomas Guillaume, the shipbuilder, 14 November 1859.  Probate 26 September 1862

This is my last Will and Testament   and by this instrument I bequeath my daughter Eliza Adderley Guillaume all my household furniture etc.

And after my funeral expenses I bequeath to my said daughter al monies that may be in my dwelling house, all monies that may be due to me in account with the Brighton branch of the London and County Banking Company.  All monies that may be due to me from the Bank of England (interest upon 3% Consols) Also all debts that may otherwise appear to be due to me at the time of my death for her own use and benefit.

I also bequeath to my said daughter the rents and profits arising from my three copyhold houses situate in the Osborne Villas in the parish of Hove near Brighton and numbered 1, 15, 16 for her own use and benefit as long as she may live.

My freehold house and premises situate in Cavendish Place, Ship Street in the borough of New Shoreham and also my copyhold house and premises situate in the New Road in the said borough commonly called Eva Villa I direct to be sold to the best advantage and the produce of the sale to be invested in Government Securities as hereinafter directed, the same to be added to the stock that may be standing in my own name separately or jointly in the Bank of England books at the time of my death to be invested in the joint name of Edward Guillaume (? Walter Hunt (JG)) and Robert Fluder in trust for my said daughter and that a power of advancement (?) is to be given to her to entitle her to make the (?) divisions arising from the same for her own use and benefit as long as she may live.

Should my daughter marry and have child or children lawfully begotten in that case I bequeath to such child or children the title deeds of my other copyhold house situate in the Osborne Villas in the parish of Hove and numbered 1, 15 and 16 and also the monies invested in Government Securities in the Bank of England in the joint names of Edward Guillaume Walter Hunt and Robert Fluder in trust during the lifetime of my said daughter and at her death for the sole benefit of such child or children lawfully begotten  if more than one share and share alike and if only one to that one absolutely.

But if my daughter should depart this life without having lawful issue then in that case I bequeath to my nephews and nieces sons and daughters of my sister Martha and brother William the three copyhold houses in the Osborne Villas before described and also all monies invested in the Bank of England in the joint names of Edward Guillaume Walter Hunt and Robert Fluder to be equally divided among the survivors at the time of my daughter’s death if more than one then share and share alike if but one to that one absolutely.

Should it be so ordained that my nephews and nieces sons and daughters of my late sister Martha and brother William should all of them die in the lifetime of my daughter in that case ther three houses in the Osborne Villas and the monies invested in the Bank of England are to be at her own disposal. 

In Witness to what I have herein stated I have affixed my name and seal this fourteenth day of November 1859 – TG

 

For the administration of all matters relating to this my last Will and Testament I nominate and appoint my nephew Edward Guillaume and Walter Hunt jointly with Robert Fluder Executor in Trust reserving to my daughter the power to receive the interest of the monies invested in the Bank of England and also the rents arising from the several houses herein enumerated and described.
