Notes:

No record in parish registers of St Anne's or St Paul's of baptism of John Vassie.   Mary Vassie is a strong candidate for being John's sister as she is baptised at St Anne's two years after he claims to have been and she too has a father called Robert.  Her mother is Jane and there is a record at St Paul's Covent Garden (neighbouring parish to St Anne's) of a marriage between Robert Vassie and Jeane (signed "Jane") McDougall.  "Jane" appears to be anglicised version of "Jeane".  Scarcity of Vassies in London around 1800 add to the case.  I would very much like to hear from anyone researching London Vassies of this period.
